Wagashi

F a u v e has collaborated with Ito Kaoru a professional Wagashi (traditional Japanese confectionary) craftsman who has worked for Toraya, a traditional Japanese confectionary store for over 45 years. Toraya was founded in the early 16th century in Kyoto where it became a purveyor to the imperial court during the reign of Emperor Goyozei, which ran from 1586 to 1611. At present, Toraya has three factories and approximately 80 shops throughout Japan, in addition to a boutique in Paris. F a u v e has created an ode to the primary nature of traditional Japanese Art through crafting a simplistic yet when taking a closer look, a rather delicate and intricate packaging logo design ; aiming to reflect the primary concept of Japanese artistry and Wagashi making.

What is Wagashi? Wagashi is a traditional Japanese confectionary made primarily from plant-based ingredients. Born of the Japanese people’s love of nature and refined sense of naturalistic beauty, it has developed and evolved over the centuries. With designs and details evoking the natural charms of each season and varieties crafted for annual and seasonal events and milestone celebrations, Wagashi is closely bound up in the lives and customs of the Japanese people.
